Description
European Union - OCCAMM (Open Components for Controlled Access to Multimedia Material) will specify and develop a series of enabling tools and components, compatible with emerging open standards (OPIMA, SDMI, MPEG), which will handle the controlled access, delivery, consumption and rights management of multimedia information. Interested in the prospect of such system, KPN Research is involved in the project, mainly in the business models, cryptographic and watermarking modules. Since the value of such system is highly dependent on its security strength, it is essential for KPN Research to know the strengths and weaknesses of the system and how it can be used in the future.Goal
The main objective of this thesis project is to assess the security strength of OCCAMM. The assessment will be based on architecture and prototype design that is available on 1 January 2001. Recommendation will be given whenever possible to enhance the system. To achieve this objective, the project will be organised in two steps resulting in two deliverables:
- The first part is aimed to achieve a full understanding of OCCAMM system. This includes a study of OCCAMM, Public Key signatures libraries search, and integration of a selected PK signature library into the prototype of OCCAMM using Rational Rose. The deliverable is a demo of the integration result.
- The second part is aimed to assess the security strength of OCCAMM. The deliverable for this step is the final thesis report on methods of assessment, system security strengths and weaknesses, and recommendations.
